Driving Directions
From Lake Shore Drive, exit at 18th Street. Follow Museum Campus Drive around Soldier Field. Signs will indicate Visitor Parking. Shedd is just to the north of the parking garage.
Ongoing: Construction of a pedestrian and bicycle underpass for Solidarity Drive near the aquarium. Additional roadwork will create a direct link to Shedd’s turnaround from Museum Campus Drive. Through December, expect lane closures, delays and restricted parking on Solidarity. The completed project will make it safer and easier for everyone to get around in this area.
Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 11 and 12: Between the two-day Country Music Festival on the Museum Campus and Sunday's Chicago Marathon, traffic is sure to be snarled. Use McFetridge Drive to enter the campus and the parking garage both days. On Sunday, Lake Shore Drive will be open during the marathon, but many connecting arteries will not. Check for street closures along your route at www.chicagomarathon.com/streetclosures.
Bears games: The Soldier Field garage will be closed to museum visitors to provide parking for Bears ticket holders. Limited guest parking MIGHT be available at the Adler lot on Solidarity Drive. When games start at noon, parking is $45 all day; when games start in the evening, the regular fee goes up to $45 at noon. Solidarity itself has no parking available during the underpass project. Our advice is to let the CTA do the driving. Shedd is accessible by public transportation from all directions. Expect major traffic delays, so plan for extra travel time. Beginning some time in the third quarter, all Museum Campus traffic will be outbound only. Here's the schedule of remaining games:
Sunday, Oct. 19, noon
Sunday, Nov. 2, noon
Sunday, Nov. 9, noon
Sunday, Dec. 7, noon (time may chane)
Thursday, Dec. 11, 7:15 p.m.
Monday, Dec. 22, 7:30 p.m.
Everyday parking rates for the Soldier Field north garage are $15 for the first four hours or $18 for up to 12 hours. Admission is occasionally on a cash-only basis; ATM available in the garage. Parking rates typically are higher during sporting events, and garage access may be restricted to game ticketholders. Rates and hours for all lots and garages are subject to change without notice. All Museum Campus parking is owned by the Chicago Park District and managed by Standard Parking. For the most current parking information, visit http://www.soldierfieldparking.com/.
On weekends, valet service is available to aquarium guests for $25. Take advantage of this service at the guest drop-off area on the south side of the aquarium, off Solidarity Drive. Subject to limited availability.
Parking for Buses
School, tour and charter buses should park in the Adler Planetarium parking lot. The fee for bus parking is $26. Buses can also park free on Canal Street at Roosevelt Road, approximately one mile due west of the Museum Campus. Canal Street offers several restaurants and coffee shops where drivers can wait until called back for pickup. Buses cannot stage on Solidarity Drive or in the museum drop-off areas.
