Jazzin' at the Shedd
Shedd Aquarium becomes Chicago’s premier jazz venue again with another season of Jazzin’ at the Shedd. This Chicago tradition combines some of the area’s best bands, the city’s breathtaking skyline and an unrivaled array of aquatic animals from around the world. Add light refreshments and drinks, and you’ve got an unbeatable summer evening of fun.
Jazzin’ happens every Thursday evening through Aug. 27. Bands play on Shedd’s north terrace and inside at the Caribbean Reef. Ticket sales begin at 5 p.m., and we stay open until 10 p.m. (Oceanarium and Wild Reef exhibit until 8 p.m.). Admission is $12 a person ($18 for entry into Wild Reef) Jazzin' is free for Shedd members.

Detour JazFunk

Detour JazFunk is the sound of Chicago’s new urban jazz scene. Their music is built on a foundation of old-school R&B’s soulful and funky grooves blended with the melodic improvisations of classic and contemporary jazz. Detour JazFunk includes guitarist Phil Seed, drummer Ben “Jammin’” Johnson, electric bassist Kenery Kent Smith and keyboard wizard Tim Gant.

The Tim Fitzgerald Quartet mixes straight-ahead jazz, funk and soul music. Keyboardist Tom Vaitsas, drummer Ben Johnson and vocalist Sarah Marie Young join Tim as they perform this summer in support of his new book, 625 Alive: The Wes Montgomery BBC Performance Transcribed.
