About Shedd
Oceanarium Reimagined

Seventeen years and nearly 33 million visitors after it opened, the Oceanarium is getting its first major overhaul. Animal habitats, life-support systems, hands-on exhibits, dining areas – renewed! During this renovation, the marine mammals will be in the good care of several sister aquariums around the country while the penguins will be off exhibit here. But don’t fret – we’ve created inSheddible connections to keep you in touch! And you still have more than 32,500 other friends to visit.

Oceanarium updates

Keep up to date with the Oceanarium's animals and trainers during the renovation with a Web diary series about all their doings off site. Watch a video of our beluga whales and dolphins being transported to their temporary home at Mystic Aquarium. And take a look behind the scenes with construction photos.

What’s new to do!

Take a behind-the-scenes tour. Watch divers swim in Wild Reef. Take an imaginary canoe trip – in a real canoe – at Camp Shedd. Beginning in October, meet Shedd’s dogs (and get training tips for yours). And that’s just for starters.
